MESP @ GOUV’AIRNANCE capitalization events

MESP Lebanese partners partecipated in November 2015 to the capitalization event organized by the ENPI CBCMED GOUV’AIRNANCE project.

GOUV’AIRNANCE aims to reduce urban air pollution in the Mediterranean by the establishment of means of measurements and an integrated territorial governance of air quality in four Mediterranean cities: Tripoli (Lebanon), Aqaba (Jordan), Valencia (Spain) and Marseille (France). The project purpose and for the better protection of populations, including the most sensitive (children, elderly, impaired breathing). GOUV’AIRNANCE proposes an inclusive approach, multi-level and participatory management of air quality. The project’s objective is reducing the health impact of air pollution in these cities, thanks to a better understanding of air quality in each area and information for citizens, including sensitive populations. The project also proposes to promote the integration of emission reduction measures as an essential dimension of sustainable urban planning documents.

On 24-25 November 2015, MESP members Prof. Walid Kamali (PMCO in MUT) and Eng. Abdelrahman Hajar (PC in OEPT) participated in the Final conference of GOUV’AIRNANCE project in Aqaba, Jordan.

The Conference started with welcoming of all participants, a first presentation of “the governance of air quality in Jordan, the Aqaba case challenges, resources, future steps” by H.E. ASEZA Suleiman Al Njadat (Commissioner for, Environment and Regional), followed by “A global overview GOUV’AIRNANCE’s achievements in Aqaba” by Mazen Malkawy, World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Aiman Soleiman, Environment Director, ASEZA Dr. Jihad Alsawair, Director, Ben Hayyan Laboratory as well as Official release of the GOUV’AIRNANCE project video. Afterwards, several topics were discussed such as GOUV’AIRNANCE project main achievements by Avitem and Al Fayhaa Urban Community, Instituto Valenciano de la Edificacion and Marseilles Municipality.  In RT1, MESP members Prof. Walid Kamali (PMCO in MUT) and Eng. Abdelrahman Hajar (PC in OEPT) presented MESP project, and in RT2 MUT presented MEDSEATIES project.
